How to get top grades at GCSE and A-level
It’s easy… yet it feels so daunting. So many subjects! So many exams! So many distractions!
Here is the key to success at GCSE and A-level. Follow these 3 steps and you will see your grades fly:
Download and read the specification for each subject.
This means you need to know the exam board, whether it’s AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR or WJEC. Your exams are based entirely on the specification - no more and no less. So you need to know it.
Get a good textbook that covers the specification.
Then somehow become familiar with the content, whether that is writing notes/highlighting/circling on the textbook itself , making flashcards, using sticky notes or page markers and placing them in the textbook for easy retrieval, or just reading the textbook over and over. You can even get a tutor to help you learn the textbook.
Do past paper exams.
This part is so important! As scary as it is to tackle difficult questions, you need to get started - sooner rather than later. You are never going to know all of the content and you certainly are never going to know how to apply it in the way the examiner wants you to apply your knowledge of the content without actually looking at the published mark scheme to the exam papers. The more exam papers you complete - without or without the mark scheme helping you - the more prepared you will be. This is where a tutor can really help you. They can make exam papers much less daunting for you by assisting you just the right amount to keep your confidence and motivation up.
That’s it! Just 3 simple steps. And a lot of time.
If you have the right tutor, the process will be much easier and more enjoyable.
You can have a Physics tutor, a Chemistry tutor, a Biology tutor, a Maths tutor, and English tutor separately or you could find a tutor who is experienced to teach all of these subjects. At Tutoring Made Easy, we have tutors who are qualified to teach more than one subject at GCSE and A-level. It’s like a one-stop shop for GCSE and A-level mastery.
